1912: Former NHL left winger Herb Cain born in Newmarket, Ont. Cain played in the NHL 1933-34 through 1945-46 with the Montreal Maroons and Boston.
1921: Ottawa's Harry "Punch" Broadbent began an NHL-record 16 game goal scoring streak during a 10-0 Senators win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens.....Future Hall of Famer King Clancy scored his first career NHL goal, in a 10-0 Ottawa Senators' win over Montreal. Clint Benedict recorded the shutout, the 11th of his NHL career.
1929: Former NHL center George "Red" Sullivan born in Peterborough, Ont. Sullivan played in the NHL 1949-50 through 1960-61 with Boston, Chicago and the New York Rangers.
1934: Former NHL center Fred Saskamoose born in Sandy Lake Reserve, Saskatchewan. Saskamoose played in the NHL 1953-54 with Chicago, and was the first native North American to play for the Black Hawks.
1949: Goalies Bill Durnan of Montreal and Chuck Rayner of New York both played superbly as the Canadiens and Rangers battled to a 0-0 scoreless tie at the Forum in Montreal. It was the 31st career shutout for Durnan and the 17th for Rayner.
1950: Nick Mickoski scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Rangers to a 6-1 win over Chicago in New York.
1952: Toronto goaltender Harry Lumley recorded his 33rd career shutout in t
the Maple Leafs' 2-0 win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens.
1955: Montreal Canadiens beat the visiting Red Wings 4-2 to extend their steak of allowing three-or-fewer goals to 25 consecutive games.
1965: Val Fonteyne picked up three assists to lead the Red Wings to a 4-2 win over the visiting New York Rangers.
1966: Toronto's Johnny Bower recorded his 30th career shutout in a 3-0 win over the visiting Boston Bruins.....Phil Goyette had three assists as the Rangers won 4-3, at Montreal.
1969: Mike Walton picked up four assists as the Maple Leafs won 8-1 over the visiting Los Angeles Kings.
1972: Ed Giacomin recorded his 40th career shutout (to tie Dave Kerr's team record) and Pete Stemkowski picked up four assists as the Rangers won 5-0 over the visiting Detroit Red Wings, in the final Chrismas Eve game for both teams.
1987: Kelly Kisio was named the 24th Captain in New York Rangers' history.
